Kongo
In July 2010, a tanker exploded in Sange, Congo, resulting in over 240 people being burned, while the survivors were treated in the hospitals and medical facilities of the surrounding villages.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) assembled an emergency team (nurses, physiotherapist, internist, anesthetist, and burn surgeons) to assist with the care of the victims.
As a physiotherapist, my role was to ensure the rehabilitation of the affected individuals, train local staff, and support the reintegration of patients back into society and the workforce.
